Eye Makeup DO'S & DON'TS for Mature (or Hooded) Eyes

Monday, March 14, 2016

As we age our eyes become more saggy and droopy resulting in something that is called "hooded eyes". All this means is the your upper eye lid has a bit of extra skin that droops over the crease. This can happen in varying degrees and become worse the older we get. I think it's important to note that you can have hooded eyes at a younger age (two examples are Blake Lively and Emma Stone), I myself do have somewhat hooded eyelids, but in that case it is just due being born with that eye shape, and not because of age related drooping.

So, I've put together this video of DO'S and DON'TS for Mature Eye Makeup, since some of the mature beauties who follow this blog have asked for some advice. But if you're younger and have hooded eyelids, the tips in the video will work for you as well! Also, please don't think that you have to do your makeup this way every time, or that you have to use the exact colors I'm demonstrating, take these Do's and Don'ts and experiment with them, if you'd like, and hopefully I will do more helpful makeup videos for hooded eyes in the future! Also, these are guidelines, so if you do something I've outlined as a "Don't" that you do like on yourself and feel it looks nice, then keep doing it - whatever makes you feel comfortable and beautiful! But, this is my advice, and at least give it a try and see if it makes you see an improvement to your look, have fun!

Alright, I think that's all I wanted to say about these Do's and Don'ts for Mature Eyes that I didn't get to say in the video! If you end up having any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the comments here or in the comment section for the video itself.

As I said, remember these are guidelines to help you if you're having trouble figuring out why your eye makeup isn't looking as great as you age. I just want you all to feel beautiful, so if you do certain things that I've considered a "Don't" but you like the way it looks, then you do what makes you feel beautiful! Love you, beauties!

  1. very nice Sam, great video! You look great anyway...would love to see that "more mature" model, more like...me! Will try this out anyway and try to hide my crepe-y "hoods"!

  2. Hi, this was a very good video! I've found that I can't put ANY eye shadow above the crease of my eyelids, it makes the crepey-ness look MUCH worse! But looks OK-ish if I don't apply any shading, my skin is pretty good for my age (over 50). But the tips you gave that I just LOVE - and tried today - are to use dark eyeliner BELOW the top lashes (the waterline) to make the eye look bigger (and prettier!), and also your tip about nude eyeliner on the waterline for the lower lid. Because I don't want to use shadow on the upper lid, I tried also applying the nude liner (Rimmel brand) in a thin line above the upper lashes, and it really brightened up my eyes. So eyeshadow is out (for me), but nude eyeliner is in! Finally, something that works for my "mature" eyes.

    2. I have had the same issue with not being able to use certain shadows above the crease: what I've found is that if I use matte colours instead of shimmer that it works much better and doesn't accentuate the 'crepeyness' in the same way. Hope it's helpful for you too!
