First Video - Messy Side Bun & Beautiful Aurora

Friday, October 4, 2013

Hello again, Everyone! :D Soooo today I am really excited because I’ve got 2 things to blog about. First, my video. Well, the whole thing, from beginning to end, was an experience. Ha Ha. Over the time it took me to set everything up I knocked over my background panels several times and knocked over one floor lamp, spilled 2 different drinks and cleared anything that was on my coffee table. :) But, it’s all in the fun of doing something for the first time. I learned a lot so I can do it better and more efficient next time.

So for this video, I decided to do a hairstyle tutorial. I’ve had a lot of strangers compliment this hairstyle and ask how I’ve done it which was the inspiration for starting my blog, and so, it’s only fitting for my first video. But, if you’re following my blog and you’re not into hair and makeup and maybe more interested in Art/Design/Crafts rather than beauty tutorials, don’t worry, there will be plenty of those in the future as well and, in fact, I plan on having something more crafty for my next video. It’s all about being creative here and I like to express that in many ways! ;)

If you want to follow along and re-create this hairstyle on yourself, you’ll need to curl your hair into loose waves first. You don’t absolutely have to since it is going to be all tied up, but I find a little texture and wave helps hold it in place and if you have longer bangs or side pieces you’d like to have down framing your face (as I like to do), it really completes the look having them wavy. I also like to do a little backcombing in the crown of my hair (just a little) to keep the shape from going flat in the back once the hairstyle is in place. That’s optional, but it does help. The only other things you’ll need are some bobby pins and maybe some hairspray to set the style, if you like. So, here it is, my Messy(ish) Side Bun Tutorial. Enjoy!

**Don’t forget to scroll past my video, below, for the second part of my blog post**

For the second part of this post I’d like to show you guys some photographs of something I had been waiting to experience for so long; The Northern Lights. I have been chasing them for a while now and finally, with this last geomagnetic storm that happened early this week, it was on!!!! It really was on my “Bucket List” and I am just so excited that I finally got to see this beautiful wonder. It’s so phenomenal and really makes you appreciate the beauty that is just naturally happening all around us. Almost equally as exciting as seeing them for yourself, is being able to capture them with your camera. I have a pretty decent camera and that helps, but I have been doing a lot of research on how to capture them and what settings to use so I could be ready for when I finally saw them. I was out there from about 12am to 2:30am and got some great shots! Now, these photos have not been altered, I did have to process the RAW camera files and did have to adjust the exposure and some other settings but no color correcting has been done. I hope you enjoy these beauties as much as I enjoyed capturing them, but seeing them yourself is really like nothing else. I wish I could re-create that for you all!

I use a lot of online resources to monitor the activity level of the Aurora so if you're interested, let me know in comments and I can share that info with you.

Alright, so I guess that's it, Friends! Again, I hope you all enjoy my video and hope you all can appreciate the beautiful images of the Aurora Borealis as much as I do. Maybe they've even inspired you in your own way and that would mean a lot to me! If you have any questions or comments about this post, feel free to comment below! Any comments or questions related to my video can be left in the comments section of that video on YouTube. If you haven't already liked my page on Facebook, you can find me at The Creative Glow and you can also follow me on Twitter! :) Big, big hugs to you all of you who have been so supportive and in advance to all my new supporters/readers/followers/likers... did I forget any? Hope you all have an awesome day/evening/night and I'll have another post for you all next Thursday!

    1. Not very often, it's hard to say because it all has to do with how often the sun emits large solar flares. The larger the more chance you have of seeing the activity. This one was classified as a moderate level storm and all other things were in favor to see them such as having pretty much no moon or clouds that night. Either one of those things can change whether you'll be able to see them or not. I've been chasing them for 5 years and this is the first time there has been a big enough store with favorable conditions! :) Awesome!
